Some mornings when we get up we can hear three things. The waves on the shore just 99 giant steps away. The song birds to the East in the building garden. And the Hawaiian neighbor who sings and practices slack key mid morning in a house across the street.

Hale Kahanalu (Hale means house in Hawaiian) is an unusual place. Set on a nice quiet residential street, our building is a three store local condo building which means we have great views of the beach and can watch the whales parading up and down the coast (during the winter) right from our large living room.

But the condos in Kahanalu are not large which makes them affordable. One and two bedrooms, one bath, a cozy living room and kitchen/dining nook. Outside there is mostly covered parking and mature tropical vegetation all around the building. We also have a nice lawn area and an outdoor gas barbecue for the building.

But our real claim to fame is the location. Many Poipu resorts are not on the water. And if they are, they are frequently up on rocky cliffs. Kahanalu, on the other hand, is just a short stroll to the Poipu Beach Park - rated #1 Beach in America by Dr. Beach - aka Stephen Leatherman, Director of Florida International University’s Laboratory for Coastal Research.

The park runs east west with grass, covered picnic areas, a children's play area and, of course, our wonderful crescent shaped beaches. Furthest East is Brennecke's Beach a Mecca for body surfers and bogey boarders. More central is the true Poipu Beach Bay, a small round protected swimming area complete with a Keiki (toddler) swimming area. Further west is the Kiahuna beach which is larger and filled with surfers from dawn to dusk.

There are a number of world class restaurants in the neighborhood and a shopping center. West on the main road is the newly constructed high-end Kukuiula shopping village on the way to old Koloa town full of shops and food. The entire area is known as Sunny Poipu for good reason. We have luxurious sun to keep us warm, crystal clear blue waters and ever blowing gentle trade winds to keep us cooled in the hottest parts of the day.
